ANGELCARE is a not-for-profit Organization formed to help relieve the suffering of children and poor families, promote community self-sufficiency, and provide educational and training opportunities to those children.
While most of our work is in developing Third World countries, ANGELCARE has four major programs in the United States:
- “Angels on a Mission” allows Americans of all ages a short-term opportunity to live and work among the poor in the U.S. and developing countries.
- It promotes the annual USA Today/USA Weekend “MAKE A DIFFERENCE Day” in schools and local religious congregations around the country and provides lesson plans and suggestions projects that encourage students to “think globally while acting locally.”
- The Pelican Patrol and the related Boat Donation Program that uses donated boats to introduce inner-city children & youth, and the physically challenged about water safety, ocean ecology, and water recreation. Donated boats are used in the program and subsequently sold.
- Co-hosts an Annual Community Children’s Holiday Party for thousands of homeless children and their families.

ANGELCARE has four major programs in the United States
- Angeles On A Mission offers Americans of all ages short-term opportunities to live and work among the poor in the U.S. and in developing Third World countries. Locations vary from year to year. In 2006 and 2007 participants worked with the victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, LA. They cleaned debris, gutted houses, and rebuilt houses. ANGELCARE made a commitment to make New Orleans a primary Angels On A Mission program through 2012.
Participants must complete an application (includes a Medical Statement), pay for their travel and food, and contribute to purchasing building materials used in the project.
New Orleans: (1) June 25 - July 5, 2008 (2) July 19 - 29, 2008

- ANGELCARE promotes the annual USA Today/USA Weekend MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY in schools around the country and provides lesson plans and project suggestions that encourage students to “think globally while acting locally.”
Thousands of teachers and an unknown number of students are reached through promotional activities that inform them of the annual MAKE A DIFFERENCE Day in October and invite them to the ANGELCARE Web Site to obtain a MAKE A DIFFERENCE Day resource section.
- ANGELCARE receives the donation of boats and utilizes them in its Pelican Project. This project provides training in water safety, teaches ocean ecology, and the enjoyment of safe boating. The Pelican Project is designed to give inner-city children and youth, and the physically and mentally challenged experiences they would not ordinarily experience. Donated boats are used in the program and subsequently sold. Trainers and boat crews volunteer their time.
There is a constant need for donated boats. Contact info@angelcare.org or (888) 264-5227 for information on our Boat Donation Program.
- ANGELCARE joins with the San Diego Coalition for the Homeless, the San Diego Food Bank, and “Toys for Tots” in hosting an annual “Children’s Holiday Party” in the city’s Civic Center. In December 2006, over 6,000 children received a visit from Santa, gifts, refreshments, games, and music. Food baskets were provided for 500 families.
ANGELCARE HAS MAJOR PROJECTS IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES
It operates its own schools in Cambodia, Guatemala, and the Philippines. It supports and partners in schools in Poland and Tanzania. Approximately 1600 students are enrolled in the five schools. ANGELCARE’s schools are preschool through 9th grade, except in Poland where the school is for educable youth.
ANGELCARE distributed the following commodities in the past year:
Gifts-in-kind are reflected at their estimated fair market values as of the date of receipt. This represents certain bulk commodity items shipped to program sites. Such items include used clothing, medicines, and medical supplies.
- A container of medicine and medical supplies, valued at $1,925,000, were distributed to over 19,000 victims from the December 26, 2004 Tsunami in Sri Lanka in collaboration with local religious organizations. The people receiving this medicine and supplies were victims of the worst tsunami in modern recorded history. It took the lives of over 200,000 persons in the area of the Indian Ocean and left millions homeless.
- Building materials and supplies, valued at $702,250 was collected by persons of all ages in Southern California. ANGELCARE’s Angels On A Mission in New Orleans used a portion of the material in June and July 2006. The rest of the supplies were distributed to other groups who had come to New Orleans to help the victims of the hurricanes. They had to agree to use the material on the homes of the victims without charging them for the material or their labor. The goal was to help the victims without adding to the financial burdens they were already facing. The ANGELCARE group worked at repairing two homes and a church. There is no way of knowing how many others were helped by the supplies given to other groups.
THERE ARE MANY VOLUNTEERS who help promote ANGELCARE’s work and raise funds. However, we do not place a value on the donated time of these volunteers of every age because no objective basis has been established to measure the value of such services. Nevertheless, a significant number of volunteers have donated significant amounts of their time in ANGELCARE’s programs services and fundraising activities. Their time allows ANGELCARE to operate with a small staff and enabling us for over ten years in a row to use 90% or more in direct goods and services to the children and their families.
No grants to individuals
ANGELCARE does not make grants to individuals. Organizations receiving grants are either branches of ANGELCARE or partner agencies indigenous to the country where the project is located. In all cases the recipients must document their needs, have demonstrated a capacity to implement and administer the program(s), provide an outline for the project’s evaluation, and have demonstrated the ability, have a willingness to provide the necessary documentation, and demonstrated their accountability.
